{"id":3162,"date":"2021-04-29T06:26:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T06:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/isf.tvz.hr\/?p=3162"},"modified":"2021-04-29T06:26:01","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T06:26:01","slug":"excellent-lecture-on-digital-evidence-and-international-collaboration-by-ms-esther-george","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isf.tvz.hr\/index.php\/2021\/04\/29\/excellent-lecture-on-digital-evidence-and-international-collaboration-by-ms-esther-george\/","title":{"rendered":"Excellent Lecture on Digital Evidence and International Collaboration by Ms Esther George"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our week here started with two <a href=\"https:\/\/isf.tvz.hr\/index.php\/2021\/03\/17\/next-month-digital-evidence-and-international-cooperation\/\">excellent online lectures on digital evidence<\/a>, and the key challenges of analysis and investigation of cybercrime in the scope of international collaboration by Ms Esther George.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lecture aroused the interest of both students and teachers, who had the opportunity of learning first-hand about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the specifics of the digital evidence<\/li>\n<li>how cybercrime investigations work<\/li>\n<li>what the legal ground for the international collaboration is<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among other things, we found out that there is no international definition of cybercrime, but UNODC (United Nations Office on Drug and Crimes) found 14 characteristics in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unodc.org\/documents\/organized-crime\/UNODC_CCPCJ_EG.4_2013\/CYBERCRIME_STUDY_210213.pdf).\">Comprehensive Study on Cybercrime.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is a comprehensive study on the problem of cybercrime, and responses to it by member states and the international community.<\/p>\n<p>When dealing with this issue internationally, one must be aware of different jurisdictions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>different legal systems (Common Law, Civil Law, Hybrid, Islamic Law)<\/li>\n<li>different powers and functions (prosecutors, police, judge)<\/li>\n<li>different codes of procedure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are many types of cybercrime: phishing, cyber stalking, identity theft, data damaged\/erased, denial of service attacks, trolling, terrorism, theft of data, child abuse images and online grooming, intellectual property theft, ransomware, money laundering, critical infrastructure attack, and frauds.<\/p>\n<p>With the rise of the pandemic, there are also attacks related specifically to coronavirus, such as bank scams, credit card scams, social media scams, and ransomware.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coe.int\/en\/web\/cybercrime\/the-budapest-convention\">The Budapest Convention on Cybercrime<\/a> proposes how to deal with this issue internationally: what the general principles on the international collaboration are, principles related to extradition, mutual legal assistance, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our week here started with two excellent online lectures on digital evidence, and the key challenges of analysis and investigation of cybercrime in the scope of international collaboration by Ms [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":3163,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[26],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.5 -
